FBC Melgar has welcomed Mariano Suso to replace Pablo Lavalin. His last experience in Peruvian football was at Sporting Cristal in 2016.
FBC Melgar officially named their new head coach on Tuesday. Mariano Suso was chosen by the board of ‘Domino’ to replace Pablo Lavalin in the technical direction of the inaugural Liga1 Betsson tournament in 2023. The 41-year-old Argentine already knows what to do in Peru: in 2015, he went to Real Madrid Garcilaso -Cusco FC -, and in 2016 managed Sporting Cristal. With the latter he was a national hero.
Since lifting the trophy with Reminisc, the Rosario-born DT has managed Gimnasia (Argentina), Emelec (Ecuador), Defense & Justice (Argentina), San Lorenzo (Argentina) and O’Higgins (Chile). In 2022, with the Rancagua team, he finished eighth in the table. After not renewing with the institution, Jorge Sampaoli recommended him to the University of Chile, according to the Chilean media En Cancha. Finally, the deal did not materialize and, months later, his return to Peruvian football became known.

Melgar in the inaugural Liga1 Betsson 2023 tournament
The red-black team is not having a good time in the home tournament. Indeed, in the four matches he played, Melgar did not add a single point. Four consecutive defeats (one after the other) took him to the bottom of the standings.
Despite having to face Cesar Vallejo on the eighth day of the tournament, the Brazilian Football Confederation decided to suspend the match due to heavy rains in our country. The new date and time of the meeting is not yet known.

Departure from lavalin
Melgar did not have a good start in the inaugural 2023 championship, adding three defeats to Deportivo Municipal, Sporting Cristal and Universitario. Also, a quick drop against Atlético Grau has been added.
