NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Many Americans are reducing the amount of red meat and the treatment they eat, including some poultry and fish, because they are concerned about their health or financial resources, according to a new study.
Americans still eat more meat than health experts recommend. High consumption of meat has negative consequences for people’s health and the environment, according to scientists at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore.
For the study, the research team surveyed 1,112 adults to investigate consumer opinions about meat consumption and diet over the past three years.
The researchers found that 66% of the respondents ate less than one type of meat.
“Many Americans still have strong meat preferences, but this survey adds to a growing body of evidence that a large segment of the population can purposely reduce their meat consumption without becoming vegetarian or vegetarian,” said study author Ronnie. The results of the survey showed that people aged 45 to 59 years were twice as likely to reduce their intake of one or more species of meat from 18 to 29 years of age. Women were more likely to eat meat than men.
In most cases, respondents said they cut meat to save money or protect their health. Those with an annual family income of less than $ 25,000 were more likely to cut meat, poultry and fish than those who earned more than $ 75,000. The researchers noted that parents with children were less likely than adults without children to eat less meat.
