The horror film “Scream 6” topped the North American box office, grossing US$ 44.5 million in its opening weekend, surpassing “Creed 3”, a film of the same genre, according to provisional data from the specialized company. Exhibitor Relations was released on Sunday. The sixth installment in the critically acclaimed horror series is the best start in Paramount Studios’ franchise history since its release in 1996, according to Friday and Sunday box offices in the United States and Canada.
At that time, Wes Craven, who died in 2015, revived the genre with a mixture of terror and self-irony, a recipe that Scream always bets on.
In this sixth episode, set in the terrifying “Ghostface” of New York, the fetish actress Courteney Cox reappears, but also the star of “Wednesdays”, Gina Ortega. On the box office circuit, this weekend’s “Scream 6” edged out “Creed III,” the ninth film in the “Rocky” boxing saga and the first without Sylvester Stallone, in second place with $27.2 million.
