Strawberry No. 1 (Again) In The “Dirty Dozen”

Ketozin Once again, strawberries topped the annual “Dirty Duse” list, which contains most pesticides.

Once again, experts who do not participate in the report say they are concerned that the list does not discourage people from eating fruits and vegetables, especially those who follow their budgets and who consider that higher-priced organic products are not sustainable.

The EWG, a non-profit organization that focuses on human health and the environment, publishes the Dirty Dozen report every year. This year, EWG researchers found that more than 98% of strawberry samples, along with spinach, peaches, nectarines, cherries and apples, had at least one pesticide residue. A sample of strawberries had 20 different pesticides.

It’s not surprising that the existing strawberry list again leads, says Sonia Lander, MBH, senior EWG analyst and researcher of this year’s report. “The list itself has not changed much over the years,” she says.

The “Dozen of Dirt” for this year includes 12 types of fruits and vegetables, like last year’s menu, with some commercial places. The 2018 list, in descending order, is:

The report also includes EWG’s “Cleaning 15” list, where products are less likely to contain pesticide residues, with the 2018 list almost identical to last year’s, with commercial sites for sweet corn and avocado for the first and second fruit, and the grapefruit leaves the list. 15 points for broccoli.

About Classification

Women who try to get pregnant may want to eat more organic products, says Lander. In one study, women who underwent fertility treatments who ate more fruits and vegetables with more pesticide residue were less likely to be pregnant. Research on male dietary habits and reproductive health has yielded mixed results. Some studies have found that men who take pesticides higher than pesticides have worse reproductive health, while other studies have not found relevance, says Lander.

Expert Perspective

He points out that many of the benefits of research are rich with fruits and vegetables in traditionally grown products instead of organic products.

Tips for washing products.

It is important to wash the product with tap water, says Winter.

Experts agree that it is unlikely that they will get rid of all pesticide residues. But it will help reduce viruses and bacteria in the products, says Winter. It is important to avoid foodborne diseases.

In the United States, almost half of the foodborne diseases are related to microbes in fresh products, says CDC.
